In the early hours of that June morning, New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay club located in Greenwich Village. The other part of the focus for this year’s Pride is “Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Stonewall,” which is very indicative of recognizing the strides that we have made since 1969. The 36th Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride theme of “A Million Moments of Pride” is in line with celebrating those milestones, both as individuals and a community as a whole, that have propelled us forward in our quest for true equality.
